The Takemura family’s residence is a designated national important cultural property, conveying the atmosphere of a merchant house that prospered as a sake brewery originating from the Edo Period (1603-1867). The store area (east house) is said to have been constructed in around 1780 and the tatami room area in 1838. The reception hall, also used as accommodation for traveling inspectors of the Tokugawa Shogunate, retains traces of the atmosphere of the period, making it a very precious house as a structure for knowing the history of the town.
