 Oyamazumi Shrine

Oyamazumi Shrine is a cultural property designated by Ochi Town. The main shrine was built by Choshu carpenters in 1879, with elaborate and exquisite carvings on the exterior. Since a Sayado (protective structure) is built over the main shrine, the cravings cannot be seen from outside, but thanks to the protection, they are still well-preserved and as good as new even after the shrine was constructed 130 years ago. On the ceiling of the front shine, the portraits of the 36 master poets and pictures of flowers and birds painted by local people at that time are clearly visible. The 36 master poets are a group of renowned poets of the Heian Period (794-1185), including Ki no Tsurayuki and Ono no Komachi.
