Built to fit into the shade of a rock on a precipitous cliff, Hijiri Shrine is an almost unprecedented, highly unusual shrine nationally, which resembles Nageire-do Hall (late Heian Period (794-1185), national treasure), the innermost sanctuary of Sanbutsuji Temple on Mt. Mitoku in Tottori Prefecture. The existing shrine was restored in 1989 and the construction period still remains unknown.
